HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION


AZOV SHIPMASTERS’ ASSOCIATION


The history of ASMA traces its roots back to the past century and begins from the founding of the Azov Captains’ Club in the Navigation Service of the Azov Shipping Company (was located: 89, Admirala Lunina Ave., Mariupol, Donetsk region, 341010 /87510/) and which was registered by Executive Committee of Mariupol (¹ 315/3) on 18.10.1989 and it is its assignee.

In different times ASMA was headed by:
- Georgiy Stepanenko , Captain
- Vyacheslav Kniga, Captain
- Izet Mekhterbashev, Captain.

Today the Association is headed by Captain Anatoliy Kernev.

ASMA is self-governing, public organization, that unites individuals on voluntary lines and common interests for realization of their rights and liberties.

ASMA ensures the satisfaction of rights and protect the legal economic, creative, spiritual and other common interests of its members.

ASMA is a juridical person.

ASMA has its rights and performs duties connected with its activity, has current and other accounts in Bank, stamp, symbols and other.
ASMA is the independent public organization. The State is not responsible for undertakings of Association, and Association is not responsible for undertakings of the State too. Association, on its behalf, may acquire property and non-property rights, may act as plaintiff in Courts.

ASMA can be a member of All-Ukrainian and International organizations, associations, federations etc.

AIM and PURPOSES of ASSOCIATION
The aim of ASMA is:
active assistance in maintenance of safety at sea, popularization of marine, technical and legal knowledge, navigational and ships operational experience, protection of seafarers’ interests;
upbringing of the young generation in the best traditions of Russian (Tsar’s) and Soviet Fleet.

The purposes of ASMA therefore are:
- to enhance and to maintain Captain’s prestige, to popularize navigation and marine trade;
- to render assistance to Mariners, members of Association in improvement of living conditions, medical, trade and consumer services;
- to assist in drawing doctors, psychologists, social workers in assignment of medical and other services including financial assistance to members of Association;
- to enlighten activities of Mariners and seafarers in mass media;
- to further the organization of the leisure time of members of Association and their families;
- to represent and protect interests of itself and of its members in state, public and other instances;
- to spread Mariners’ experience, to favour raising of navigator’s professional skills, to popularize marine traditions;
- to further information, publicity and printing activities;
- to further creation of its own mass media organs;
- to further the development of co-operation between colleagues from other countries;
- to realize exchange of information, documents, publications, ideas, experience on the matters of Association’s activity with foreign, non-government organizations;
- to hold lectures, meetings, anniversary celebrations and other events according to aims and purposes of Association;
- to establish contacts with state, public, scientific and other organizations for the purpose of common and effective development and realization of events that answer the purposes of Association;
- to organize and to further realization of exhibitions, tenders, auctions, conferences, press-conferences, symposia, round-table discussions, meetings, briefings, cultural and entertainment events, to further realization of different programs, creative and entertainment events, lectures and other ones for achievement of its aims.

RIGHTS of ASSOCIATION
The Association has the following rights for realization of its purposes:
- to perform a party in civil-legal relations, to acquire property and non-property rights;
- to perform and to protect legitimate interests of its members in state and public bodies;
- to perform its activity according to social order, initiatives and needs of citizens, who require social protection;
- to support ideologically, organizationally and with pecuniary aid other citizen organizations, to assist in their creation;
- to get information from Government bodies and local authorities that is necessary for realization of its aims and purposes;
- to make proposals to government bodies;
- to spread information and popularize own aims;
- to create its own means of mass media; to create libraries, gramophone record libraries and other cultural-informational institutions;
- to create or to join international public organizations, funds and associations that occupy sport activities, to support direct international relations, to enter into proper agreements and to participate in activities that do not contradict international obligations of Ukraine;
- to participate in organization of cultural and entertaining events, in realization of different programs, creative and entertainment evenings, lectures not on commercial basis;
- to organize and realize exhibitions, fairs, auctions, tenders, tournaments according to regulations and Legislation currently in force (without commercial activity);
- to enter into agreements and other contracts with physical and juridical persons, who apply to statutory activity of Association;
- has other rights according to the Legislation currently in force.

Association may create self-financing institutions, organizations, enterprises with status of juridical person according to the Legislation currently in force, which realize economic and other commercial activity for performing aims and purposes of Association.

Association may create or join international public non-government organizations, to form international Unions, to maintain direct international relations, to enter into proper agreements and also to participate in activities that do not contradict the international obligations of Ukraine.
